Generally, occasional house cleaning professionals bring their supplies and cleaning products unless their clients ask them to use specific products they have at their houses if they have such a preference or need to stick to the specific cleaners due to the personal issues (most commonly, allergies). But, when it comes to a housekeeper, who works for multiple clients, she’s not supposed to bring a bundle of products, brooms, mops and vacuums to your house. She’ll use the supplies you have at home. Thus, the quality of her operation and the cleanliness of your home will depend on your conscious effort to provide her with everything she needs to keep your place clean. Some housekeepers aren’t against buying the supplies for the client (when the expenses are compensated, of course), but they’ll still store those at the client’s house/apartment. 2. I’m not a cleaning fairy Yes, I’m a professional cleaner who has to know the job and perform at a high level. But, I don’t have a magic wand to tidy the entire 3-story house in less than two hours. Do you want me to wipe down the windows, scrub your bathrooms, dust the surfaces, do the dishes and laundry, deal with your clutter and deep clean your carpet before your business partner's or spouse’s parents arrive? Call me beforehand then, as I’m not a magic broom. 3. I’m not a dog walker/babysitter/grocery shopper/button stitching person either Don’t get me wrong, if I’m on the good terms with my clients and I have free time, I may pick up extra chores occasionally. But, you can’t expect me to do all the random tasks you’re not coping with just because I’m there. I’ll do what I’m paid for and what I’m qualified to do. Do you want someone to walk your dog? Find a pet walker/sitter or pay me to do that if I agree to. 4. A reasonable notice is highly appreciated Everyone understands that’s quite rude not to let a hairdresser, a babysitter, a pool cleaner, a dentist or other kind of service provider know that you’re going to cancel the appointment or stop hiring them in advance. Housekeepers appreciate the same treatment. And they totally deserve it. No one would like to waste his time to come to work to find out that it’s canceled or to hear about the fact that he’s fired and has no job without having some time to find another source of income. 5. I can’t read your mind to figure out how you want me to do certain things It’s completely understandable that different clients have different house cleaning approaches and may set certain requirements for their housekeepers. But, please, speak out and let me know if you need me to do something this way, but not the other instead of being disappointed at me, but not telling why. 6. I know stuff, but I’ll keep my mouth shut I clean your house and know more that you may want me to. But, let’s be real, you’re the one who hired me for the job, thus you presumed that a complete stranger will go through your things to clean up your home. I may find the stuff in your kid’s bedroom you’re not even aware of. I might notice something you don’t suspect or want anyone to know. But, unless it threatens someone safety, I won’t tell anyone. 7. I don’t deserve ‘the look’ I may not work as an attorney at a fancy law firm, a financial consultant or a popular interior designer. But, I work probably just as hard as you do to earn my money. And, unless you prove me wrong, I’m great at what I’m doing. So, don’t feel like you’re entitled to look down on me. Let’s be kind and respectful to one another and appreciate each other’s work.
3 Homemade Cleaning Solutions That Can Save Your CarpetWho doesn't love Halloween? More than 68% Americans are planning to celebrate the holiday this year, spending, on average, $94 per person. Did you know that 'Samhainophobia' is a word, describing a morbid fear of Halloween? The holiday is thought to have originated around 4000 B.C. and is the second highest grossing commercial holiday after Christmas. What about you? Will you celebrate Halloween? If the answer is yes, you should be prepared for the horrifying carpet stains brought by the holiday. The kids leave candy and chocolate all over the house and the fake blood is literally everywhere. The morning after the Halloween party has to be the biggest cleaning day of the year, but have no fear the cleaning tricks are here! Most of the stains can be removed easily using the products you already have in your home as long as you follow these steps. 1. Chocolate First you should scrape off as much as possible without grinding the chocolate or pumpkin deeper into the fabric. Apply a mixture of two cups cool water and one tablespoon dishwashing liquid and wash. If necessary, apply the solution again until the area is clean. 2. Candy Apply a solution of one tablespoon neutral detergent and one cup warm water. Using the mixture, sponge the stain from the carpet with a clean white cloth. If the candy is melted use a mixture of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water. 3. Candle Wax After scraping off as much of the candle wax as possible use a damp brown paper bag to cover the stained area and put a wet white towel on top of it. Use an iron on top for 15 seconds. That's how the wax will transfer to the paper bag without damaging the carpet. Check out if the wax is removed, if not repeat the steps. Be careful not to use the iron for longer than 15 seconds, because some carpets are made with man-made fabrics and could melt even at low temperatures. 4. Pumpkin One of the easiest stains to clean. You just have to remove any bits of pumpkin on the carpet and put some cool water. Then, pre-treat the stain with laundry detergent or dish soap and leave it for five minutes. Wipe off with a clean cloth. 5. Oil-based Halloween Makeup and Lipstick Using a dry white washcloth, dampen the stain with alcohol until there are no traces of any makeup or lipstick on the cloth. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol or makeup remover on a clean cloth and rub the stain, wash with warm water. Repeat, if necessary. If you haven't already seen your stain above, you can try these steps. Step 1. Try removing as much of the material as possible from the carpet. Gently scrape it with a dull knife or spoon. Step 2. Apply rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth or paper towel and treat softly the stain then rinse with warm water and blot dry with another clean cloth or towel. Step 3. Spray a mixture of one tablespoon dish soap and two cups of hot water to the stained area. Again, gently rub the stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Step 4. Rinse the affected area with hot water and dry with a clean cloth. You have to keep in mind that some stains could be very persistent and you will have to repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 again. Step 5. Ammonia – It does an amazing job removing all kinds of dirt and stains. Pre-treating very dirty areas with straight ammonia will provide you even better results. Of course, never forget to test on an inconspicuous area first. The bad part here is the smell again, such as with vinegar. The smell of ammonia also disappears when the carpet is completely dry, but remember, keep the windows wide open until this happens. Also, keep pets and children away from the room while using ammonia or solutions that include ammonia, as it can cause urinal problems and the strong smell can make them dizzy. 3. A home-made carpet cleaning shampoo – Make a solution by mixing about three spoons of mild dish-washing liquid (non-moisturising), a quarter cup of ammonia and two litres of water. Stir well and apply on the carpet using a soft sponge. Let it work for 15-20 minutes and rinse well with a damp cloth. Then just open the windows and let it air-dry. Of course, not all stains can be removed easily. Some of them are pretty stubborn and may require professional intervention.
